Gillie versus Langer in Market Cook-off
Subi Farmers Markets will next Saturday pit ex-Australian cricket stars Adam Gilchrist and Justin Langer against each other in a cooking race against the clock; the first in a three-week series of celebrity cook-offs.
Gilchrist and Langer will swap cricket whites for aprons while they ‘shake the pans’ to create dishes using only ingredients from the Market’s fresh fruit, vegetable and other produce stalls. Each will have a maximum of ten minutes to collect ingredients and 30 minutes to cook a dish to impress the judge; a surprise local celebrity, chef or foodie.
“Every parent wants to make sure their kids develop healthy eating habits and understand where their food comes from,” said Gilchrist. “As a local Dad, I am proud to be part of an initiative that promotes this and supports buying grower-direct, even at the risk of public humiliation.”
Over the next few weeks, starting at 10.00am on Saturday, 22 May, local celebrities, personalities, chefs and restaurateurs will take part in the challenge. Assisting & giving tips to the cricket greats will be other local foodies, including John Cumming – of Mini Espresso in London Court in Perth.
