Yarn Bombing comes to SFM

Yarn Bombing is coming to Subi Farmers Market – 10th Sep @ 9.00am

Knit a Wish is an inclusive community arts project, which aims to celebrate the local community of the City of Subiaco at Christmas. The idea is to knit and crochet works to be installed in special public locations in Subiaco, another name for this activity is Yarn Bombing, it is an internationally recognised temporary public art form.

Knit a Wish for Christmas will bring people together to share and create, and celebrate at Christmas.

As wool winds and weaves around itself to form clever knitted designs for unusual places, the creator is asked to think about what Christmas time means to them.

Hundreds and thousands of white knitted creations represent one community’s wishes at Christmas.

Come down and join this innovative project. Be part of something exciting and fresh!

Free Farm Workshops

Subi Farmers Market brings a series of free Farm Workshops to the kids of Perth.
We are extremely lucky to have formed a partnership with Helen Pratt from Cook Love Learn who is extremely passionate about working with fresh locally grown produce and even more passionate about bringing it to the wider community.
Helen Pratt is a chef currently living in Perth, Western Australia. She gained recognition while leading the team at the iconic Bistro Felix in Subiaco. Helen is inspired by the variety and quality of the local produce found throughout Western Australia and is an enthusiastic proponent of food provenance.  Her classical training and genuine desire to please translates into a modern European Cuisine which is refined yet approachable. She now teaches privately to adults and children throughout Perth.

Through this series of workshops city children and adults will be given the opportunity to interact with food on a more real and intimate level than is usually available to them.  They will have the opportunity to meet the farmers in a comfortable environment, listen to them speak about their produce, try samples, ask questions and even pat a chicken or two! The workshops will conclude with a fun, hands-on cooking class so that the connection between paddock and plate is made palpable.

“It’s my hope to enrich the experience of cooking for children by helping them to feel part of a much greater and fascinating process.”
These workshops will be run each Saturday in September and are free to attend. They will run for approximately 45mins to one hour and will start at 10.30am in the Farm Workshop Tent. Just look for the scarecrow kids.
Workshop Dates:
3rd of September – Meet Annie from Spencers Brook Farm
10th of September – Meet Daniel from WA Hills Fresh
17th of September – Meet Ellah from Eggs by Ellah
24th of September – Meet Juliet from Over the Moon
